Yes, I have him now, with both wives. His father was Iden WALTER (1762 Staplehurst - 1849 Bermondsey) and his father another Iden (c1734 Maidstone - 1814 Staplehurst).

This Stephen had three daughters and one son by Elizabeth COLLISON. The son was another Stephen (1841 Marylebone - ?) who married Mary Ann DALEY. I have tracked this family until 1901 when they were resident in Kensington, but I have not traced Stephen or Mary Ann's deaths yet. As my tree is a single surname study this branch ends with the daughters, the elder of whom, Annie Emily married James SNELLING and lived until 1968. I have no more information about the younger daughter Elizabeth (yet!).

Are you a descendant of one of the daughters?

Kind regards, Ken

Further research this morning has added some individuals to the tree branch. Do you view Ancestry.co.uk? It would be easier to see the details there to save me explaining via this thread.

No subcription right now but can go to library. I am not a descendant of Mr. Walter. My connection is through Stephen senior's stepdaughter Harriet who was a Burton and with whom he lived in 1871. Thanks for what you have sent just now. Janice

Pleasure, nice to exchange information with you. If you do go to Ancestry, look also at the tree by "angelawal152", as she is the living relative of this family and has undertaken substantial research. She has traced the direct line back to John WALTER (1505-1538) from Marden.

Good luck in your further research.

Thank you for adding to my small store of information and also for your suggestions regarding trees I can look at.
If anyone is interested in the Burtons, I have quite a lot. I hope you find your answers to your own questions! not easy, I know. Please keep me in mind if I can help in future. J

Just one addition. Today found that Stephen Walter joined the Met Police warrant number 12610 on 12 Apr 1837, and left the force 28 July 1848. Explains why he is a police constable on the 1841 census. The National Archives have a downloadable file MEPO 4/333/12610.  Bye again!
