Is this his birth?

Jul/Aug/Sep 1838
Lincoln
Ref 14. 388
John Cullen

Is this him in 1841?
Beckingham, Lincolnshire
James Cullen 30
Elizabeth 30
William 8
Ann 7
Harriett 5
Elizabeth 3. All above NOT born in county
John 2.  Born in county

If so, it does indicate a marriage not in the Lincolshirr area after all!

1851 has the Great gonersby family that you mention, and also the Beckingham family that I gave you for 1841.

Heres the Great Gonersby family (although now living in Deeping Fen)

Deeping Fen
John Cullen 46 ag lab bn Great Gonersby
Elizabeth 50 bn Manthorpe
Jessy Poole Cullen 15 bn GG
John Cullen 14
Samuel Cullen 12
Mary Louisa Cullen 9.   All children bn GG

So you would expect that John and Elizabeth to have married in Lincolnshire.

And here is the Beckingham family
 Rectory Street, Beckingham
James Cullen 40 gardener bn Avenham Nottinghamshire
Elizabeth 40 bn Yorkshire (not sure of town)
Elizabeth 14 bn Beckingham
John 12 farmers day boy bn Beckingham
Hannah 10
James 7
Sarah 5
Mary 2

I havent followed either family further forward, to see if either John is still in the UK after 1857 and thus can be ruled out.
But I still cant see why a marriage in Westminster is being looked for!!!

:)Lizdb we exhausted all the Lincoln and surrounds. As we have a particular inherited condition and we found this linked between Middlesex and Lincoln I started to look further afield. I also have checked 10 years either way on all access I have and came up with zilch so have narrowed it to this period. As I am in Australia and I have tried to follow through with Ancestry and Other paid avenues I have decided to see if anyone may find something I can't see.

Have you followed either John forward already? You say you have "Ancestry" so have access to the same records as I have! Dont want to duplicate action!
Did your one emigrate alone, or are there any rellies on the "Sunshine" with him? Are there any other surviving documents (eg Will ) that might mention any more of his family?

No liz I actually gave up Ancestry when I could not find him also my heritage .  He immigrated alone but I gather the names Sarah,Francis, Neville , appear in his linage. He was a farmer in Australia and married into an Australian farming Family.

The Great Gonerby Johns have been claimed to a family in US.

Is this an online tree somewhere or have you followed it through yourself.   :-\

Good question, Rosie.

You say you "gave up Ancestry when you couldnt find him" - so presumably that means that you HAVE ruled out both the GGonerby and the  Beckingham Johns already? How did you rule them out?
As I said before, I dont want to go over old ground that you have already covered and spend time looking up what you have already done.

Maybe this is how -

1861 has 2 John Cullens of the appropiate age, bn Lincolnshire.

1) Born Beckingham, now 24, now living in Warwickshire with wife Jane - so that means the Beckingham one wasnt on a ship to Australia in 1854
and
2) Born Lincoln, age 22, a stone mason, now living in Leadenham as a lodger.

Is that the GG one, or is it a third John Cullen, possibly the one whose birth reg I found before, but have not successfully found in 1841 or 1851, or someone who was not brought up as a Cullen and thus not found?
All sorts of scenarios.

If he is NOT the GG one, then that lends a degree of suggestion that the GG one could have been the one that emigrated to Australia in 1854 . . .
