Brick wall - Ann Wilkinson, b. 1831 Foleshill, d/o Thomas and Fanny
« on: Sunday 03 August 14 15:31 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm stuck on Ann Wilkinson, who was one of my 3xg grandmothers, so I'd love to be able to find out more about her parents etc.  I have her marriage on 12 Apr 1852 in Ansley to James Allton, and then her on all subsequent census records including a likely death in 1907.

On her marriage certificate it gives her father as Thomas Wilkinson, a weaver, and that matches with her baptism in Bedworth on 29 Aug 1830.  From the baptismal register, her father is a weaver, mother called Fanny, and they're living in Foleshill.   I also have the baptisms of possible siblings (Mary, 11 Jul 1824 and Thomas, 16 Sep 1827 - both show same details as Ann's baptism (i.e. weaver, Foleshill).  There's another possible sibling, Elizabeth, ch. 25 Mar 1832 at the same Bedworth church, but the image isn't available on Ancestry.

The closest possibility for a marriage I can find is between a Thomas Wilkinson and Frances Johnson at Holy Trinity, Coventry on 18 Mar 1822. The witnesses are a Joseph Dunn and Wm Gregory, the latter signing many certs, so he was probably a church warden or similar.

Can anyone find me a better match, or throw any light on these people for me, please?

I also can't find Ann on the 1841 or 1851 census; or Thomas snr and/or Fanny, nor any of Ann's siblings, although I suppose Mary could have married by 1841 and a combination of  common GNs and SNs, doesn't help!  There's a death in Exhall in 1837 of a Thomas Wilkinson b. 1795, so I suppose that could be dad.

Any help very gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi

I think you are correct in your assumption that Elizabeth chr. 25 March 1832 is Anns sibling. On the same day there was this burial

FRANCES WILKINSON buried 25 MARCH 1832 Exhall aged 26 years. Abode: Foleshill.

What a shame, she must have died in childbirth/ or something arising from that. Think it's too big of a coincidence not to be the mother of Ann.

What a fab load of info, Claire.  Well, not fab about the death of the infant and death of the mother, but you know what I mean.  Thanks so much.

The best match I can find for a baptism for Frances Johnson is in Sheldon on 5 Jun 1805, d/o Francis and Mary.

I think Thomas Wilkinson is going to remain something of a mystery, 'cos I've made no progress with him at all.

Hi

I know Wilkinson is a fairly common surname but I have checked the Parish records for Warwickshire on Anc*  for a Thomas Wilkinson born c1795 and there is only one in that timeframe that stands out

Thomas bp. 20 Sept. 1795 Foleshill, son of Joseph and Mary.

There is this marriage at Foleshill, that seems to fit

21 June 1790

Joseph WILKINSON and Mary WILKINSON both OTP

Both signed register
Witnesses: Thomas Wilkinson and John Huchinson ( church official from seeing other marriages he witnessed ).
