Swannell Family (Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire and Buckinghamshire)
« on: Sunday 10 August 14 16:56 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

This is my first post as i am currently in the middle of researching the Swannell family tree.

I'm a Swannell by birth and it seems my tree is currently huge, just wondering if anyone else uses ancestry.co.uk to map their trees who could help me fill in some gaps?

Mine is below for anyone who is interested  :)

Hello & Welcome to RootsChat

You also need to include Bedfordshire....

A Martha Swannell from Pavenham married my great-great-great grandfather Thomas Partridge at Felmersham in 1780. They feature in your online tree.

Hello again..... where did you get your tree information from?

I've been looking at your Ancestry tree and compared it with 7 other Public Member Trees on that website that all have it that Thomas Swannell 1695 - 1783 who married Judith Crouch at Felmersham in 1722 was son of Edward Swannell & Mary Allen. There is no baptism for him at Felmersham so where did he come from? Some trees have father Edward born 1667 either at Padbury, Bucks or Maulden, Beds ?? Most have the marriage of Edward Swannell to Mary Allen on 29 Nov 1690 & one claims this to done at Blunham. However that marriage is pure fiction as that marriage was in fact on 29 Nov 1790 where the transcript states that Edward was a widower from Felmersham & Mary was a minor.

I and other Swannell researchers suggest that Thomas was in fact son of Thomas & Anne Swannell baptised at Little Horwood Bucks in 1699 but we're not sure how they got themselves to Felmersham.

Sorry to put a dampener on your family tree research but I needed to point this out.

Regards John

Hey,

Most of the tree has come from other family members who have previously attempted to put something together but havent gone as far back as i have.

Its the first time ive ever tried to do this and what i have has been done over about 2 weeks and roughly 15 or so hours!

No need to apologise, its always best to find out now than never at all!

John, do you remember that Lugsden thread we worked on a few years ago? That included Priscilla Worth Swannell dau of Joseph and Priscilla, who was born at Radwell/Felmersham on 9 Apr 1811. These were non-conformist. I wonder if her father Joseph was the Joseph born in Felmersham in 1776 shown on MissC's tree? I can't find find his marriage to Priscilla, who may have been Priscilla Worth.. I'm stupid! IGI Joseph Swannell & Priscilla Worth at Harrold 12 July 1810, but it's  a member submission so would need checking.

Hello David.....

Yes the Harrold marriage is valid; on 12 July 1810 Joseph Swannell of Felmersham married Priscilla Worth, I have them in my tree. He is son of William Swannell & Martha Wright.

I've just emailed you a document which details this marriage & all of their offspring's marriages including the one to Ladds William Lugsden.

Cheers John

It's surprising how much you can achieve in such a short space of time if all you are doing is gleaning info from other sources without verifying details yourself.

I spent a few hours at the Bedford library today looking through parish record transcripts to get the first marriage & their children's baptisms & burials of Edward Swannell 1758 & also for his brother Thomas 1754, both sons of William & Martha. Interestingly they both married Ashpole girls; sisters and after each of these wives died they then went & married Allen sisters from Blunham.

If you're wishing to fill up the loads of gaps in your tree then I think its more interesting to go out there and check out the original records.

Cheers John

Hello,

I'm related to the swannell family who mainly came from Padbury in Bucks however the line I come down from come from Bedfordshire.  Here are links to my rootschat posts relating to swannells...:

I am related to Frank Cyril Swannell the famous land surveyor in BC, Canada and I have traced the Swannell name back to William Swannell born in about 1488.

If it looks like we have a connection PM me!! ;)
