I agree, the info provided looks like your man. As Cando pointed out, the info on death is only what the informant provided. Considering Mervyn's mother Eileen died when he was very young, either an incorrect name has been provided or Dorothy may have been a significant mother figure in his life. The death certificate would clarify his cause of death which in this case would confirm or eliminate this Mervyn.

his mother's name was Eileen, When she died in 1943 he was listed on her death certificate as Robert Mervyn

Using what surname and where did Eileen die in 1943?  How do you know that her son Robert Mervyn was using the surname QUINLAN.

As Ros pointed out this man's name is Robert Mervyn on the marriage registration

QUINLAN Robert Mervyn
SARGEANT Hariet Pauline
District Perth Reg#1016 1962

You need the death certificate to confirm or eliminate this man from your research.

Yes mother married a Bell . I believe he didn't have a birth certificate & when he wanted to go into the Army his mother registered him in her name. He was murdered by a Joseph Stilitano

Marriage
QUINLAN   Eileen A
BELL   Robert J
District Perth Reg#1227   1932

I can't see his mother's death as a BELL in WA in 1943 only an Eileen A BAKER in 1943.

All aside you need the 1969 death certificate to help you progress with your research.

May I ask the source of the information about Robert Mervyn's death?

This chap was my husbands' cousin, although they didn't have any contact. Yes his mother also married a Baker...I guess the only way to truly find any answers is to sit & shift through tons of newspapers at the library....perish the thought!!!

Why not purchase 1969 death certificate.  It would give the cause of death.

You have the exact date of death from the cemetery record - 12 Dec 1968.  I would search in the newspapers around that date.

This man was known as Mervyn Robert..and a soldier

Western Australian  19 Jun 1953
Mervyn Robert Quinlan (20); soldier, of the military camp, Karrakatta

This Mervyn Robert's wife did not enrol to vote until 1980.

The surname is spelt STILLITANO...two LL's.  There is no need to keep repeating information you posted in your intial request.

Aileen Agnes BAKER nee QUINLAN formerly BELL died in 1943 aged 34 years and Mervyn Robert/Robert Mervyn would have been c11 years of age so so his mother couldn't have registered his birth when he enlisted years after her death.

If you live in Western Australia you can obtain a free e-card from State Library of Western Australia http://www.slwa.wa.gov.au/ which enables you to search W.A newspapers online
