Feakle, Clare, baptisms and marriages
« on: Thursday 14 August 14 03:50 BST (UK) »
Hello
Would someone please be able to look up the Feakle RC marriages for Patrick John Gallagher and Bridget Fennessy between 1850 - 1860 please.

Also Feakle RC baptisms before 1860 (after 1860 they are online here http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/bmd/feakle_tulla_baptismal.htm  )

I am looking for the baptisms of Bridget and Daniel, children of Patrick & Bridget above. I have their other children's baptisms in Feakle - Mary b 1862, Edmund 1864, Catherine 1866, Patrick 1868 and John 1870.  Also the baptism in 1833 of their father Patrick John (father Thomas).

John (my great grandfather) came to Australia in the 1890s - as did his brothers Edmund & Daniel & sister Mary.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Michelle Dennis

Hi Michelle,

Unfortunately RC parish records in Feakle do not pre-date 1860.

Regards,
Noel.

yes, I thought that too, until I found this -

1842-1861 Feakle Roman Catholic Registers - British Film Area 0979696 items 5, 7; 0979694 it 5

https://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Clare&parish=Feakle&churchid=784

Have you tried to look at this register?

cheers, Michelle

I'm pretty sure the 1840 to 1861 records refer to records from Caher which would not cover all of the origonal Parish of Feakle. I'm not even sure if these records are are stored with the Feakle parish records. I have never had any reason to view records from that area. Do you know what townland your ancestors came from? (See link below.)

Noel.

The source for the records in the Irish Times listing is an LDS film and if you check the LDS catalog it says:
"The Catholic parish of Killanena, also called Caher Feakle, was part of the original parish of Feakle. Before 1845 Feakle was divided, and this portion became Killamena or Caher Feakle. For records of the other portion see Catholic Church, Parish of Feakle Lower. Both Catholic parishes, Killamena and Feakle Lower are in the civil parish of Feakle." (County Clare)

and
"The original Catholic parish of Feakle was divided in 1842. This part became Feakle Lower, or Southern Feakle. The other part became Killanena, or Caher Feakle. For those records see Catholic Church, Parish of Killanena."

Derrybehagh would not fall under the Caher/Killanena records, just Feakle I'm afraid.

Noel.
