Beat me to it avm288, I'd just spotted that one as a possible. They were both widowed so Alfred could have been her son  :)

Ann Lucas aged 8 can be found with Job and Susanna Lucas in Ashwater, Devon in 1841.

The parents are still there in 1851 (as Lukis) but Ann is not with them.  HO107/1896/283/12.

In fact Ann "Lukis", 19 b Ashwater, is in service in Ashwater in 1851.

that info is brilliant thank you so much but i cannot find the marriage of robert medland and elizabeth there are 2 marriages 1 in tavistock to a grace and the other stoke demeral? but not to an elizabeth...

No, I couldn't find a marriage for Robert Medland to Elizabeth either. 

The one who married Grace was a different one - that couple can be found in 1851 separately from Robert & Elizabeth.
