I have looked at the 1861 Census for Jane Folder and I believe that she was born 'Westmorland North' and not 'Wath'

Looking afresh at the 1861 census page, I think Jeffrey is absolutely right about this. The first letter does look more like the enumerator's N than his W. and the following letters looks identical to the "or" in Westmorland and Worth and Shoreditch on the same page.

"North Westmorland" seems to have been a synonym for the Barony of Appleby https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barony_of_Westmorland

I did wonder whether there was a possible family connection with Thomas Shaw born Brough/Stainmore circa 1786. He was a draper in Southwark High Street in 1851 (born Stainmore), retired in Brighton in 1861 (born Brough). I haven't found any evidence of a connection though.

Jane Shaw was my 3 great grandmother through William Oliver.  I also wondered if her father was William but then again realised that the name William has been used throughout the Oliver generations including my own father, which makes me think it was probably from the Oliver side of the family.  I am totally stuck with Jane so if you have any information I would be most grateful.
It was strange that as I got to Jane in my tree a short while after I passed by Appleby so stopped off to look at the parishes.  Just wish I knew how she ended up in London.
