mckelvey family,....clough ?
« on: Saturday 16 August 14 13:22 BST (UK) »
hello everyone,  I am looking for information on this MC KELVEY family in antrim.

THOMAS MCKELVEY married AGNES MC CULLOUGH,  1858,  Ballymena or newton crommelin ??. they are my 3x grandparents.  Agnes's father was a William McCullough.
Their children I have found so far,
...................mckelvey, born, 4 march 1864, clough, antrim

agnes mckelvey, born, 6 march, 1866, clough, antrim

William mckelvey, 14 feb, 1868, clough, antrim

mary mckelvey, 9 jan, 1870, clough antrim

Thomas mckelvey,  not sure when born, or where, but he is my great grandfather.

I am looking for any more children they may have had, actually any information that can be found on this family.  Trying to trace back as far as possible for the family tree.  All information greatly accepted and appreciated.

kind regards from heather

The un-named child born 1864 was a son.
There's also a daughter Margaret (born 1873) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F5X9-ZSC

Since Thomas & Agnes married in 1858 and civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 you'll need to see if baptismal records (if they survive) show any children born 1858-1863.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGZ9-KP9
The marriage took place in Ballymena registration district and Newtowncrommelin could either be the place or merely the sub-district. You'd need to check the marriage certificate to see the exact place, names of witnesses, fathers' occupations, etc.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Heather you have had good replies.  If you are going further back in time
In the 1823-1837 period a simple Tithe-Applotments Record was made  The originals are not all online, and are housed at PRONI, Belfast.   The ones that are on line in Co Antrim are are in alphabetical order of civil parishes and so far that means No 1 Aghagallon to 54. Killagan. No 66 is Newton Crommelin  see the online site at
http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/antrim/tithe-applotments/ballylinny-parish.php#E

The Presbyterian church records at Newton Crommelin consist of
Baptisms, 1835-1954; marriages, 1836-99; session
minutes, 1836-76; communicants’ roll, 1861. These are on microfilm at PRONI, Belfast MIC1P/319

Try http://www.billmacafee.com

Out of curiosity I looked up Griffiths valuation for Co Antrim see www.askaboutireland.com the only McKelvey homestead listed is in the parish of Connor which is near Ballymena
In 1862 an Edward McKelvey was living in Tullaghgarley, Connor
In 1835 an Andrew McKelvey was living in Artnagullion   Connor County : Antrim
In 1862 McCullough there are no McKelvey or McCullough listed in Newton Crommelin
In 1862 there are mcCulloughs living in Racavan and Glenwherry

I couldn’t look up Glenwheery or Glenwhirry on the tithes  website , some sort of a glitch

Going back to your named query I rechecked for Clogh/Clough and found it in Dunaghy civil parish and the tithes applotments do include Ezekeil McCulloch, living in Killyree Townland in the civil parish of Dunaghy
1825 but no McKelvey, where are they living!

Good luck JimG

I went away worrying about Clough, then I found the area in Dunaghy civil parish has changing names  Clogh, Clogh Galdanagh, Cloghgaldanagh, and sometimes Clough.   I went back to Griffiths valuation because Clough was worrying me and I am not good in parts of Co Antrim historical geography , So in Dunaghy civil parish were the homesteads of
Ezekiel Mc Cullagh   Killyree
George Mc Cullagh   Killyree
John Mc Cullagh   Lismavallaghan
Thomas Mc Cullagh   Rosedermot
William Mc Cullagh   Rosedermot
James Mc Kelvy   Craigfad
Thomas Mc Kelvy   Lismavallaghan
I am stopping there, good luck onwards

Hi Heather currently piecing together the McKelvie tree and we have got as far as known to be decendant from (my great grandad x 3) Thomas McKelvey  Limavallaghan b. 1789 and 1810 married Sarah Halliday b. 1792 via their son John b. 1813 married Catherine Gaston.
Note:Our name spelling changed somewhere on the way in immigrating to the colonies from McKelvey.

As being from the same townland -parish mentioned in the post there could be a connection with yours? The family home of T McK was Clogh Mills Ballycregagh.
We have no history of Thomas's family or further back, so interested if you have any info to share if you think we could be related or you have anything?
