Information on Warren Kinney (New Vernon NJ)
« on: Saturday 16 August 14 15:45 BST (UK) »
Hello all I am looking for any information pertaining to Warren Kinney (1888-1975), who was the owner of Lee's Hill farm in New Vernon NJ. He had two children in Joan Kinney and Francis S. Kinney. His father Francis S. Kinney (1839-1908) was together with his brother Abbott the owner of the Sweet Corporal Cigarette brand. His grandfather was Franklin Sherwood Kinney (1804-1871)an attorney born in Aurora, Cayuga County NY.
I am looking for any information on Warren and his mother as well as the ancestors of Franklin Sherwood Kinney.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat

Warren H Kinney was married to Genevieve M Amy 24 April 1912 Manhattan - Certificate No 11129

http://www.italiangen.org/records-search/grooms.php

Marriage Certificate would confirm the parents.

A passport application made by Francis in April 1906 only mentions 2 sons. Warren born 25th may 1888 New York City and Morris 6 July 1891 Butler New Jersey. Confirms Francis was born 17 October 1839 New Brighton SI.

There are a number of anc tree's on the family. The dates don't quite add up on some  ???
What specific info do you want on Warren ?

Hi Sandra,

I was looking for information on his other occupation, his hobbies. I know quite a bit about the farm and his involvement but not much on his personal life. I would also be interested in photos of Lees Hill Farm and the buildings, especially the farm.
I am writing a book on the history of the Brown Swiss Breed and want to include a short biography of Warren Kinney.

There is a death for a Mary Ann Kinney in Newark New Jersey born 1861 and died 13 June 1895 but no further details to confirm she might be the correct person.

His WWI record:

Do you know if he went to Columbia? A Warren Kinney was elected "Varsity Crew Manager"  (Marked '11 which I means "will graduate class of 1911" as another man is marked '13).  There is a small photo of him:

That site has several more references to Warren, also to "Maurice Kinney", here's an interesting one:

Here are some newspaper references to the wedding:

It indicates that they were to honeymoon in Europe.
http://www.ellisisland.org shows (look for Warren Kinney) them coming back in August 1912 from Liverpool.  On a rather famous ship, the Lusitania.

This is mostly about brother Morris' dog breeding, but also ends with a mention of his brother's interest in "fish hatcheries and aquaria".  I haven't looked through all the Chronicling America hits but there seem to be quite a few references to their social activities through the 1910s.
