Thanks but not convinced - although the f and long s are often confused, the letter before the y is unclosed - all the other os are closed.

I've been using up some of my Rootsireland credits and the only match that I can find so far is the baptism (undated but pre-1785) of a Henry Watterson at Hilltown Presbyterian. Father named James. I don't think this is there, is it? He might be unrelated  :-\

I read it as Bellnessy.

The 'e's are identical to those in the word nephew in the line above.

It definitely ends 'ssy'. The first 's' is a long s.

I was just going to post that I think it looks like Ballnessy.
I'm not convinced with the other suggestions because of the 's'.

I will have another look now after Jen's post.

Yes, maybe Bellnessy  :)

 Thanks both.

That's three of us!

I just can't find a Ba/ellnessy (or similar). Could it be an estate now gone?

So far there's no sign of the nephew William, son of Andrew. As he drew up an inventory, he must have come over to Scotland.

I've been looking at Ros Davies's site and found that the Wattersons  in Annaclone were mainly in Ballynafoy. There were no single t Watersons listed for Annaclone.

The will of an Andrew Watterson of Ballynafoy dated 1795. (who could be the brother mentioned in William's will)
Another Andrew of Ballynafoy probated 1833, executor was a Mary Watterson of Loughbrickland.
John Watterson of Ballynafoy probated 1730,
Richard Watterson of Ballynafoy, probated 1733.
William Watterson of Annaclone, probated 1834. Executor - Mary Shepherd of Ballynafoy.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/W/WasWau.htm

So it could  be that it  is  supposed to be Ballynafoy or a place in that area. It's certainly not written as that.  I'll see if I can find more.

Not found any Wat(t)ersons there in Griffiths!

Thanks all.

Looks like Bellnessy to me also. I don't know that area of County Down but it could be the local name for part of a townland and thus won't appear in any townlands list.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Gadget.
Try to imagine a Scottish solicitor writing out the will of Wm Waterson and trying to spell Ballynafoy, Annaclone when the address is given to him, perhaps in an Ulster accent!
The Ros Davies entries for Wattersons are almost certainly the same family. Anyway that's where my money would go.
