Death Lookup Request - Halifax/Ovenden/Illingworth John Priestley 1838-1841
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 16:59 BST (UK) »
Is there anyone willing to check for the death record of John Priestley from Ovenden sometime between 1838-1841?  (There are several John Priestleys who died during this time frame, found in freeBMD, but I have no idea how to narrow down which one is the right one?)  I believe he was born sometime between 1800-1810; his wife Lydia Blackburn was born 1811 in Ovenden.  Their marriage with both listed as Ovenden took place 1830 in Halifax.
Thank you for any help you can give!

In 1841, Lydia was living in the Halifax registration district and youngest daughter was 4yrs old.  John could have died before her birth which puts it pre-1837

There are 5 deaths in the Halifax RD between 1837-1841 but members of the public do not have access to death certs

My daughter lives just outside London; is there any way she might be able to look at these death certificates or would my only recourse be to order them one at a time?  Thank you for your help!

Hi

Death certs are not available for public viewing anywhere.  To keep your costs down, when ordering - you could try putting an age  "condition" on your application to eliminate infant deaths or the death of somebody much older

There is a burial of John Priestley of Ovenden at St Mary, Illingworth on 31 October 1837 - however, he is aged 70.  :'(

After more searching, I have found a John Priestley buried in Stoney Royd cemetery #2168; this appears to be a re-interment from either Ebenezer Primitive Methodist or South Parade Methodist, and John and Lydia Priestley had children baptized in both locations.

Any suggestions on how I might request a lookup for this cemetery plot?  Contact Stoney Royd?  I still don't have a more exact date than between 1837 and 1841   :-[

Try Stoney Royd.  If I remember correctly, they were fairly helpful to me. AND you do have the plot number, which is very useful.
