Mackay birth at Stronach House, Gartmore, in 1924
« on: Friday 22 August 14 10:37 BST (UK) »
I have a copy of my friends fathers birth certificate, he was born illigitimate on 21/5/1924 at Stronach House, Gartmore, Parish of Menteith, County of Perth..... (I wasn't sure if this should have been on the Perth board or not?)

We know his mother was a Mary Mackay whose residence at that time was Onslow Drive, Dennistoun, Glasgow.  The query is, has anyone heard of Stronach House....and was it some sort of mother/baby home that she was perhaps sent to.

We can find nothing on google but hoping someone on Roots can help. :)

Many thanks in advance.

Hi TH
If you Google "Stronach + Gartmore", the house should appear on the Zoopla site as a semi detached property on Main Street Gartmore.  The exact location on the accompanying map is indistinct, as is Streetview, but a general impression can be had of the main street through this quiet village located close to Aberfoyle.

Regards,
Istrice

Hi Istrice,

Thank you so much for that, I have gone up and down the street looking at each house name and bingo it is the one joined onto 'The Gartmore Shop'.

My friend will be so pleased to see the picture of where her father was born, she hadn't known he was illigitimate until his death about 10 years ago..........now to see if we can find his birth mother!!

Why didn't we think to look for Stronach rather than the Stronach 'House' that was on his BC??!!

Once again, many thanks.
