Hi nvb,

Could you possibly be more specific with names & dates so that posters here will have a better idea of how to help.  The Home/Hume family are a bottomless pit and incredibly confusing.  In the meantime, if you’ve not already looked, the NAS & NRAS catalogues have several hits for Ninewells:

Also Google Books, again searching for Ninewells:

Life of David Hume:

A Bibliography of Hume’s Writings and Early Responses:
http://tinyurl.com/khb3bgs

Life and Correspondence of David Hume:

The following snips are from 'The Political State of Scotland in the Last  Century, a Confidential Report on the Political Circumstances of the 2662 County Voters in 1788', pages 63-64 (such an illustrious title!)

Edit to add; there are also about 5 wills relating to the Humes of Ninewells available from Scotlands People

My distant aunt Jean Veitch Somner was the second - and much much younger - wife of David Hume of Ninewells, the advocate nephew of philosopher David Hume. They had no children. After he died she married Charles Maclaren co-founder and editor of "The Scotsman".

But I haven't really looked into the Hume side of things much. She left an extensive will, but I don't remember her leaving anything to her Hume step-children. Might be remembering wrong though.
