St Mary's Church, Coity, Bridgend - grave information
« on: Saturday 23 August 14 21:06 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for an Elizabeth Morgan (nee Meyrick) who I think was buried in St Mary's Churchyard, Coity on 14th March 1798.  Her birth date was about 1747 so her age would be around 52 years old at the time of her death.

If it is the Elizabeth I am looking for her husbands name was Robert Morgan.

Is there anyone in or near to Coity that is able to do this?

Thanks

Hughes - Hurst- Cassidy - Southern Ireland

There is a burial for Elizabeth Morgan at St Mary's on 14 March 1798 but on my transcript there's no other info. I also couldn't find a MI for Elizabeth.
Incidentally there was no burial record for Robert Morgan.

Thank you,

So it still could or could not be her?  Please forgive me but could I ask what an MI?

I also made a bit of a mistake when typing her husbands name - it is WILLIAM Morgan.
ROBERT was a son baptised in Coity in Jan 1773

Sorry, MI is monument inscription, so no surviving headstone. Would you like me to check the  transcript for any other info regarding William & Elizabeth?

Sorry,

Should have figured out monumental inscription - just being a little dense.

Do you think the transcripts would have any additional information? I don't want to be a pain.

Thanks

Hi again, unfortunately none of the events have ages, abodes or occupations. Anyway, here are baptisms
Elizabeth Morgan bap 21 Oct 1767
William Morgan bap 12 Feb 1769
Elizabeth Morgan bap 21 Mar 1770
Mary Morgan bap 30 Jun 1771
Robert Morgan bap 14 Jan 1773
William Morgan bap 25 Aug 1774

Burials:
Elizabeth Morgan 24 Dec 1767
Elizabeth Morgan 10 July 1771
Mary Morgan 02 Apr 1773
William Morgan 28 Jun 1769
William Morgan 29 Apr 1787
William Morgan 07 Dec 1796
William Morgan 25 Jan 1799
William Morgan 19 Aug 1801
William Morgan 07 May 1810

No way of telling which, if any, of the above relate to your family, but it does look as if the first four burials are of William & Elizabeth's children. Oo I see that William left a Will, dated 7 Nov 1798 and proved 22 Feb 1799. Do you have a copy of that? It names his sons William and Robert and daughter Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Thomas.

Sorry, I should say that if you don't have a copy of the Will the images are available to view on the National Library of Wales website, Morgan, William, Bridgend, Coety, Glamorgan, shopkeeper/farmer 1799.

Thank you for all of tat information -fabulous.

It may have caused a few hiccups in my tree as I note in the will Robert is in the East Indies-interesting.

I will print all the info and see if I can confirm that I am looking at the right family

Many thanks
