The passenger list shows his father as John of Cooleen. Going off the ages in census, could he be Tobias?

The 1897 birth would be too young.
Possible, he's not with the family in 1911, but what would the F of William F be on the ship record
Wouldn't you expect William T

Found William b. 1885 with the same parents as Clement John & Margaret.Did this William die? Possibly as there is a death in 1887 of a 2 yr old William - so a total red herring!!

There is a published tree for James Stapleton who emigrated 1907.
The parents are John S and Margaret Sadleir which seems to fit.
However, the tree owner has a link to an entirely different family in 1901  ???

Yes, this William is to parents John Stapleton and Margaret Sadlier who married in 1878 (reg. Cappagh), in light of Heywood's find, I've decided to wait until the OP provides more information (to avoid nugatory effort).

Yes that's probably best. The OP might have all this info and want to know what happened to John Francis  :)

Who were his parents on marriage? Were they just invented?
Did he take John Francis to Scotland?
Sorry, it's all questions.
However, just thought it must be right family because of place name.

on his marriage cert it had his parents as Hugh Stapleton and Mary Dolan, and no he did not bring John with him to Scotland, the only reason I know of this son is the good people on rootschat who found him,i have tried finding Johns birth in new York to see if William had married but no I never found anything,i would love to know if John went on to Marry and had children of his own.
