William Connell c 1822 From Kilmarnock, Scotland
« on: Monday 25 August 14 09:56 BST (UK) »
William Connell c 1822 married Margaret Miller at Carmarthen in 1855. Later census documents say he was born in Kilmarnock Scotland.
Please could I ask if anyone has information on William before 1855?

Hi NormanE

I see he remained in Carmarthen, and worked on the Railway (a signalman age 69 in 1891). Children identified through the Census  & FreeBMD:   James Miller (1858), William (1859), Charles Miller(1861 b & d) Harriet Miller (1864), Robert Thompson (1866). There may also have been an earlier son named Charles, b 1856 (but I can't see a death)?

The daughter, unmarried age 28 in 1891, married  as Harriette Miller CONNELL 1907 in Pontypridd  to Albert Charles LANE… She died in 1953 - and this obit.  said her father had been wounded at Crimea in the Charge of the Light Brigade and had been nursed by Florence Nightingale.  http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/7572938.print/

The Charge of the Light Brigade was October 1854 - a year before he married Margaret.

So possibly an Army Service Record exists for him.   If it was recorded, knowing his father's name & occupation from the 1855 marriage document, may help find him pre-1855.

Cheers

Ambly
Many thanks for your information.
I had already ordered the 1855 marriage certificate for William.
With your information a day at Kew will be a future step.
Again many thanks
