Ardrossan Parish Cemetery
« on: Monday 25 August 14 12:59 BST (UK) »
Lair number 132. Can anyone help me with a record or a headstone.

I have this lair purchased 17 November 1883 and subsequently opened 18 January 1907.

Trying to trace first wife who I believe is buried in this lair.

Subsequent burial is Alexander Thomson in 1907.

Recently found reference to other names in this lair

Marg Fullerton Thomson died 17/11/1883. I don’t know whether Fullerton was her maiden name or middle name.

Can’t find her death in Scotland’s People or her marriage to Alexander Thomson.

Can’t narrow it down because I don’t know where they lived prior to the burial in Ardrossan.

I have a possible entry in 1881 census for Alexander Thomson age 27 as a patient in Coast Mission Home. Correct profession, marine engineer but unmarried.

Assumption would therefore be that they married between 1881 and 1883 but I am struggling to find the record.

Found the death of Margaret Thomson nee Fullerton. Thrown by the fact that it was in Glasgow.

Now to look for the wedding 😬

Old Ardrossan Parish Church: Used continuously from 1776 to 1908.
Since 1957, it has been home to the North Ayrshire Heritage Centre, Kirk Gate, Manse Street, Saltcoats KA21 5AA, Scotland. Email: naheritage@north-ayrshire.gov.uk

At the time of your individuals, Saltcoats was "split" between the Parishes of Old Ardrossan and Stevenston and did not become a Registration District in it's own right until later, circa 1900.

Edit: QUOTE Alexander Thomson of Ardrossan END QUOTE died probably January 1907 at Westbank Terrace, Shettleston (Glasgow). His demise was reported in "Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" Intimations, 18 January 1907 edition.
