1861 Census for Wales

Evan Rees was born in Llanarthney ,Carmarthenshire about 1829.
He moved to Maesteg to work and in 1851 was a farm servant in
In 1853 he married Ann Manuel in  St Cynwyd's Church Llangynwyd on the 26th of November.
Ann was born in Pembrey , Carmarthenshire also about 1829.

A little more to add;-

In 1857 they had a son also called Evan Rees who would have been three at the time of the census.

In 1871 they were living in Neath Road Cottages,Maesteg

Quite intriguing Neath Road Cottages. My recollection of Neath Road was of relatively big houses and I don't remember cottages. I suppose that they could have been knocked down and other houses built in their place.

Ivy house which occupied the position of the pavillion and bowling Green in the park was still therein 1908. That had to be knocked down for drainage to go in for the building of 8 houses at that point. Pictures taken during and after world war one show how little had been built up until then.
