Glendalough in 1911 Irish census
« on: Tuesday 26 August 14 10:15 BST (UK) »
In the 1901 census I have found Glendalough and six townlands listed there

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Glendalough/

I just can't find Glendalough in 1911 census. Am I missing something?? or would the returns be missing??
In 1901 there were two families McGuirk listed at Raheen
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Glendalough/Raheen/
and I wanted to see where any survivors were in 1911.

Hi Our Gang

Can you post a link to your family on 1901 and I can have a look for them in 1911 ?!

Hi There

I tried to see if I could find any of the other families in the 1901 census onto the 1911 census but no good leads.

I suppose if it was a remote part of the Lakes the 1911 Census was either not taken or it may be one of those unlucky ones that seem to have disappeared.

As some of the family in Raheen are under 20 in 1901 have you looked for marriages after this date.

Hi Tara,

Theses are the McGuirks in no 4
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Glendalough/Raheen/1812599/
and number 5
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wicklow/Glendalough/Raheen/1812600/
I though maybe some of the younger members might have been alive in 1911.
I have found them on Griffiths Valuation under Derrylossery, Ballinacor North...for some reason the link won't copy here!!!

Thank you Dathai,

I'm just getting started on these Raheen McGuirks...after a chance meeting yesterday in Wicklow Jail...I realised that I could have been looking in the incorrect place for my lot!! I had such scant info at the start that i went off at break neck speed in what might have been the wrong direction. It was interesting !

The Wicklow Heritage Center should have the 1911 missing records.
I'd ask in the main county Library, all the Census was micro filmed but not all of it made it online.
I know Newbridge Library, which is also the Heritage Center has the missing parts from Co. Kildare.

Thank you Sinann for this tip. I was stumbling around this morning. Am now organising my plan of action to follow the new trail. I have had so much help from Rootschatters I rushed in here for help immediately :)
