AmeliaAda"Nell"GILBERTb17.7.1909Broadford.d30.4.1994m.Alexandra.
GeorgeAlexanderGALBRAITHb5.10.1905IrelandCountyDerry?d31.3.1997

This is all i have on George Galbraith.
He came straight out from Ireland and got a job contracting on the roads around Alexandra Victoria and finished up marrying the bosses daughter.

Cheers

The above George Galbraith was born Millburn Cottages and there are still Galbraiths in the area.

Northern Constitution, 28 Feb.1903: Galbraith—At Millburn Cottages, on the 20th inst., the wife of William John Galbraith. of son.

William John Galbraith married Margret Jane Smyth-

William John Galbraith's parents Andrew Galbraith & Sarah Macauley -

Lots more available on this family but will wait to see if any of it is of interest before posting.

Hello All, the George Galbraith information came from a family source and matches the Cavan - Alexander george Galbraith. My original information from oral history was that George  was born circa 1905 and came from Londonderry. So  it still could be both as "from Londonderry' could mean his departure point and would count both in.
Working backwards - his first daughter was born in 1934 [confirmed]  and assuming that he was married 1933 and allowing 5 years to find the job, court and marry the bosses niece [i got it wrong earlier]. It would mean that he got off the boat and walked into the job about 1928. This would place him about 23/25 years of age.We just need to find the ship. Is there a census either side of 1928 that we can check both Alexander George and George?

Cheers
Jack Gee

100 year data rule on Census, so next one due 2026 (1926 Census).

Can you get his marriage cert to the bosses niece?

You could look for marriage for both men in Ireland, if you find one than the other is more likely to be your man.
If the Cavan guy married before 1941 it should be on Irish Genealogy assuming he married in the Republic.

I checked for a George Galbraith going to Australia in 1930ish (since that's where he ended up) and came across one close but from Portadown. However, ships to Australia didn't leave from Londonderry at that time so wonder how/if Derry still fits.

See that the dates you originally gave are on the grave marker-

I also suggest checking George and Amelia's marriage certificate to get the names of his parents- more reliable than death certificate since George should have provided the details.
