Bedwellty marriage - please confirm
« on: Wednesday 27 August 14 19:11 BST (UK) »
On the 1911 census (Brithdir) and 1901 census (Rhymney) the wife of Frederick Newman is named Mary.  The 1911 reveal Fred & Mary had been married 19 years.  Checking FreeBMD list Frederick Newman with Mary Evans and Elizabeth Jones on the same page.  FindMyPast list only one, Elizabeth Jones?.  I suspect a transcription error; can someone please check the marriage at Bedwellty (11A 169) 2/1893.  I would appreciate details.
Thanks Roy

That column on the 1911 census asks for how many COMPLETE years the marriage has lasted?
Therefore indicating a marriage c1891?! ;D

A possibility:
December qtr 1891
Edmonton district     vol 3a, page 537

Newman, Frederick William
+ and on the same page +
Peterkin, Mary

Ancestry has the FreeBMD version, with Mary Evans and Elizabeth Jones. Helpfully, someone has put a comment next to the other groom noting he married ELizabeth Jones.

I also noted a child on 1911 not present in 1901 - think I have found her with her Evans grandparents in Tredegar, which may help confirm the link.

George Evans    66 - b Berry Hill, Gloucestershire
Alice Evans    63 - b Berry Hill, Gloucestershire
Elizabeth J Newman    7 - grand daughter b Tredegar

1891 census has a Frederick Newman, b 1872, Stonehouse, Stroud with the Royal Artillery at Woolwich Dockyard?

an't see a better fit for Fred in 1891?

Hi Mabel
Thanks for the details, spot on.  Elizabeth J (Jane) ties it in nicely. If it is not too much trouble I wonder could you post the 1891 details?
