Margaret Horan born in Mullingar 1869
« on: Wednesday 03 September 14 19:33 BST (UK) »
Hi, Margaret Horan I believe was my great grandmother.  She married a guy called Edward Browning who was a British soldier stationed in Fermoy.  Her daughter Mary (my grandmother) was born in Fermoy in 1893.  I know they had two more children in Brighton before moving to Belfast in Northern Ireland where they had more children.  I would like to know anything about  my great grandmother or grandfather.

Hi,

Possible birth record -

Margaret Horan
Birth Date - 30 Sep 1867
Birth Place - Mullingar
Baptism Place - Mullingar
Father's Name - James Horan
Mother's name - Margaret Mee

Do you have Margaret's marriage cert with her father's name recorded? If so who is Edward's father?

Have you found the Brownings on any census which hopefully shows Edward's birth year and place of birth? This will then enable us to look further for him.

The more information posted the better  :)

1901 for the Brownings minus Edward -

'Head of house on Form H' (it would appear that Edward was recorded on a barracks return)

thank you for all your help, I know that Edward came from Sussex, I was just puzzled how an Irish girl from Westmeath met an married a British soldier stationed in Fermoy!

Edward Browning was born in Brighton Sussex.  I don't know any more about him, I know they went to England for a few years and returned.  They then show up on the Belfast census in 1901 and 1911.  Thank you all for your help, as Mullingar is quite a bit away from Fermoy I was wondering how they would have met up and married?
