There were burials in Cardington:
John Abney 17 Oct 1843 age 81 Abode Fenlake
Elizabeth Abney 21 Apr 1825 age 60. Abode Fenlake

Possibly John's parents.

I can't find a baptism for John in Cardington, or any other Abneys before 1811. Nor a marriage of John and Elizabeth in Beds.

Hi Bedfordshire Boy,

Many thanks for that info, much appreciated.

I had come across the burial for John in 1843 but not that of Elizabeth.

I agree that John & Elizabeth are possibly/likely to be John's parents.

Many thanks again.

Kind regards

David

I see that John and Elizabeth Aubeney baptised a daughter Sarah in Cardington on 14 Feb 1802, and there's a marriage in Cardington on 14 Nov 1786 between John Aubeney and Elizabeth White.

Still no Aubeneys or Daubeneys in Cardington in 1782, but the White family were living there, if you'll give me a minute.

Hi Keyboard86,

Many thanks indeed for that, very much appreciated.

That has to be her! Age spot on, living in same area of Cardington (Pastures) as parents John & Mary have been found to be living in 1851. Also has the same occupation as her sister in law Ann Abbney (brother Thomas's wife).

My thanks again.

Kind regards

David

Hi Bedfordshire Boy,

Many thanks indeed, very much appreciated.

That's brilliant!

Is the 1841 Beds CD Rom set still available? If so where could I get it? Beds Family History Society?

Hmmm, having grabbed my old occupations book off the shelf, it gives the following for Cottager:

Cottager - Smallholder or small farmer living in a 'tied' cottage which came with the job.

Many thanks once again.

Kind regards

David
