Corbett Family from Castlesampson, Roscommon
« on: Friday 05 September 14 16:24 BST (UK) »
I am researching my maternal line -Corbetts from, Taughmaconnel, Roscommon. My grandfather - Thomas was born in Castlesampson, 28 Jan 1882. His parents were James Corbett and Mary Fahy (or Fahey - father was Thaddeus Fahy). My grandfather immigrated to the US (Boston) in 1908. His siblings Annie (b. 1868), Eliza (b. 1872), Catherine (b. 1874) Mary (b. 1877), Bridget (b. 1880) and Timothy (b. 1881) - all immigrated to Boston. One brother, Patrick (b. 1870) remained in Ireland - I suspect being the oldest male he inherited the farm/land. Patrick married Mary Logue. Several of their children (James, Patrick, Bridget) immigrated to Boston, and I believe Thomas, Mary and Timothy remained.

I am looking to locate any CORBETT descendants ( or Fahy or Logue), that might remain in the area or are known to anyone. I think that one of Patrick's boys, (*), may have operated or owned the Hayden Hotel and Brennan's Pub in Ballinsloe, probably until the 1970s -1980s.

Hi kemurray72

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

This forum is for finding our ancestors not reconnecting with missing relatives and we have a 'no living people' policy here so the names you mention have been edited.

If anyone stumbles across this topic in future and they recognise the surname & location, they can send you a personal message provided they have a post count of 3 and above.

Dawn,

Thank you for your message and I will adapt my formatting in the future. FYI, I am not trying to reconnect with "missing relatives" but to specifically find ancestors. I'm sure you appreciate one of the cardinal rules of pursuing ancestry is interviewing surviving relatives to continue to find out about ancestors and pursue that information. All the ones stateside have passed on so now I hope to find others in Ireland.

As for the "living people" policy I appreciate that and understand the privacy  and security issues involved.

I assume that this was posted in a general area, but I've subsequently found that there is a Roscommon thread. Can I re-post there or can this original post be moved to the Roscommon area? Thanks.

I have moved your topic to the Roscommon board as requested.

And to re-iterate, if anyone can help put you in touch with relatives you can interview to help trace your family tree, please do so via the personal message system

Happy hunting

Going BACK in time you have 1911 Census http://www.rootschat.com/links/01a34/

 1901  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01a34/

but as Dawn says... moving forward to living relatives will rely on someone recognizing your post and replying privately, or on your own research on the names on Census.

The Census data will not put you in touch with relatives you can interview
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Ken! My ggg grandmother was Annie Corbett born in Castlesampson in 1834. Her father was John Corbett and mother was Anne Downey.  Maybe a sibling? Or cousin?

Hi Artsangelssheila

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

kemurray72 hasn't been online here since 6th Sept and won't receive anymore notifications that we have posted because they haven't read Hallmarks reply.

I'll send a personal message but they may not have enough post counts (you should need 3) to use the personal message system.

Fingers crossed.

Dawn

Hallkmark,

Not on in quite awhile. Out of country for a month and off line. Been playing catch up ever since. Have already identified the 1901 & 19011 census info, but appreciate your effort.

Thanks,

Kevin Murray
