Passenger Lists
« on: Tuesday 09 September 14 11:36 BST (UK) »
Hi there I dont know if anyone can help, but I am trying to find out when a relative of mine left Ireland to come to Liverpool.

His name is John O'Brien born in 1853/54 in Waterford Ireland but married in 1874 in Liverpool
I would like to know when he came over and if his Father: Edward O'Brien and Mother: Mary Aylward came too!!

As i have kind of hit a brick wall and cant seem to go back from he married in 1874 to Sarah Jane Groome. I would be very gratefully for any help.

Hello,

I see you have posted on two boards with your query and that may cause problems with posters providing the same information.

There were no passenger lists as It was all part of the United Kingdom.
Have you checked English censuses?
How do you know his mother's name!

Regards
Heywood

I don't believe there were ever any passenger lists from Ireland to England.  People just to'd and fro'd.

Have you checked Irish census for his parents?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hi his mother's name was Mary Aylward. I have got all the census from after he was married in England, but nothing before.

I have tried looking for the Irish censuses but the name John O'Brien father Edward O'Brien and mother Mary are quiet common.

Are you looking for him in Ireland pre 1874?

Do you have his birth?

He was Baptisted in 1854 in Waterford. On his marriage certificate he was 21 what would be 1853.

The answer then is, if you can't find him in 1871, that he came to England 1871-1874.
Sadly, that may be all you find.

Have you checked deaths in Waterford for his parents?

This might be something to follow up (even though death certificate says born & lived all her life in N.B.)-

Death: Margaret O'Brien; 12 Jun 1927 South Nelson, Northumberland, New Brunswick; age 76 (born c1851); parents (born in Ireland) John O'Brien & Mary Allward.
