Tintern Pubs and Hotels
« on: Wednesday 10 September 14 12:10 BST (UK) »
David Howell(s) born 1841 in Trellick Grange.

In 1850 he was recorded as a Publican.
In 1851 census he lived at Chapel Hill, Tintern, Monmouthshire.
In 1861 census he lived at Howell's Cottages Hotel, Lime Kiln Lane, Chapel Hill.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest which pubs/cottages these could have been and if any photos may exist?

Thanks,
Hywel

In the 1901 Census Howell's Cottage is next to the Ship Inn which can be seen on the 1879-1881 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=353047,200104 opposite the west end of the Abbey.

No, the area has been cleared (bfore 1918) for excavations relating to the Abbey, see https://goo.gl/maps/pUchM the Anchor Inn shown on the old map is still there. Looking at the route of the enumerator, Howell's Cottage is the building at the start of the road going down to the Anchor Inn.

See this 1893 photo - might it be one of those buildings on the left? http://www.francisfrith.com/locations/tintern/photos/tintern-village-1893-69292886
