James Green Death registered 24/11/1865
« on: Thursday 11 September 14 05:54 BST (UK) »
Hi and thank you for previous help with the above death entry which I recently obtained.

It has come back to me as an "accidental death" given by the County Coroner Arthur Cheese. The place of death appears as Cwmtoydder, Rhayder.

As James was a Railway Guard, I am presuming this would mean  Cwmdauddwr... a new station was constructed here,  in 1864. In 1861 James is stationed and living in Chester.

James was only 37 years and had a young family, I had previously thought he may have held the key to a inherited family health problem. This certificate has provoked my interest  for other reasons.

Specifically, which newspaper would have most likely reported on Inquest details at the time, please? I would like to follow this through and obtain a little detail before hopefully visiting his grave in Chester next year.

Thanks for reading, I am in Auckland, New Zealand.

Welshnewspapers on line     welshnewspapers.llgc.org.uk/en/home

Use search key "james green" (include the "   " as part of key). Use date slider bars to restrict search to 1865 only
7 "hits" returned - click on "IRADNORSHIRE"  - the "Welshman, 1 December 1865".

Hi,

I would suggest an email here:

http://www.powys.gov.uk/en/archives/find-archives-local-records/

They should be able to advise about newspapers and might possibly hold the file on the Inquest, although very few survive.

Good Luck!

Thank you for excellent help. I did not expect a request/ search to be so easy and also so sad.
Really the kind of facts that would one would expect to be repeated verbally,  over the years.

James' grandson John Read became a Railway Inspector after starting out as a Railway Guard. He was a successful and wealthy man.  A passion for trains that obviously stayed in the DNA despite a previous outcome.

Thank you so much for most helpful replies and suggestions.
