Alice SWAIN - Family
« on: Sunday 14 September 14 13:05 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm looking for information about Alice SWAIN and her immediate family.

Alice SWAIN is the wife of Henry DAVENPORT. They were married 26th May 1917, Coppenhall. Alice was born 1880, and so was 36/37 at the time of marriage, and Henry was 26/27. You can find all this information out from FamilySearch. It tells you the name of Alice's father, John Joseph Swain.

I have no idea about where Alice was born, where John was born, where they are from. I've had a look, but the possibilities could be quite wide. I do know about the children Alice and Henry had, when they died and more, I just don't know about Alice's side of the family.

Thank you for your help,

A very quick look at freebmd reveals a couple of Alice Swains bn 1880 and a few more in neighbouring years, but not vast quantitities.
Have you looked at 1881 census to see if any are with a father called John Joseph?
What is his occupation on the marriage cert and who are the witnesses? These clues might help you be sure you find theright girl.
Also, does your one ever use a middle name?

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

As there is an age gap between the parties it may be prudent to obtain the marriage certificate to ensure there is not a transcription error.

Hello,

I'm so sorry I've not replied, I've been very busy.

I'm not really sure when Alice died to be honest. I've got it down as 1933, Bury, Lancashire. I think I just put that because the age at death and birth year matched. I think I had a look at the probate on Ancestry, but I can't really remember, maybe that's why I put it.

There could be a transcription error, but it think it might be unlikely. For example, further back in my tree, an 17/18 year old married a 36/37 year old. I know that isn't wrong, and I doubt this is  not to rule all possibilities out though.

I really wish I could be of help, but I really don't know much about her.

Thank you for all your help,

You have the marriage details which are transcribed, the transcriber could of course have put the wrong details down, look how many census records are mis transcribed!

You do need the marriage certificate to move this on, you will get an address at the time of marriage for Alice you will be able to check her age, the witnesses may help you in establishing her family as well as her father's employment. ALL this info will assist in tracking the SWAIN family through the records

You could try Crewe Library / Chester RO for a photo copy of the certificate ( you know it was at St Michaels Coppenhall)far cheaper than purchasing a certificate via GRO

Alternatively order the film via the familysearch resource center close to your home
