District of Anderston

Can anyone please tell me the likely burial place for someone who died 1 October 1911 in the district of Anderston.

They died at 53 Esmond Street, Glasgow.

The first that springs to mind is the Western Necropolis in Tresta Road.

Often however the location selected can be influenced by a number of factors
1. If the family had strong links to a particular area
2. Religion
3. Who paid for the funeral ( if the local authority became involved it tended to be the closest and cheapest)

Falkyrn,

Thank you for the information.

All I have is her death date and, she was a widower and her husband was a Chief Constable of Police.

Try the police archives as they have/had a police widows and orphans fund they may have been involved?

Falkryn,

He was George Ingram. Don't have his death details, but obviously, died before 1911 as his wife was a widower.

Unfortunately it looks as if he wasn't a Chief Constable (see http://www.policemuseum.org.uk/) unless this was before 1846 when Anderston became part of Glasgow. he may have been in charge of a local area or station and this could take any rank.

The Mitchell do have a lot of police service records but some areas are quite patchy and others simply haven't survived as smaller forces were amalgamated. The Mitchell also have the recently digitised lair records previously held by Glasgow Council Cemeteries department which should help in answering your original question.

Falkryn

Have looked up the census's

1851
George INGRAM  was 26yrs.  Police Officer Langholm, Dumfriesshire

1861
George INGRAM  was 36yrs.  Paisley  Burgh  Superintendent of Police

1871  was 46 yrs.  Paisley  Superintendent of Police

Can't find him on later census's. Perhaps his wife moved to Anderston after George died, which I don't when.
