Ancestry and iPad problems today
« on: Monday 22 September 14 18:21 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,
I am looking for advice and help please.

This morning I was able to access Anc. on iPad through Safari as always. This afternoon I couldn't.
At first I got the home page but could not search from there- nothing happened.
I cleared history, cookies etc but then I couldn't sign in.
I phoned Anc. and was told it must be my settings and maybe there had been updates.
I can't update iOS 8 - not enough space and there is no record of any other updates.
Phoned again for clarification but received the same info- it must be my settings.
On their advice I tried Chrome - no different.
I tried Opera and can sign in, search but when I then want to view, I am back on a sign in page.
I am going round in circles.
Is it my settings and do I need to clear some apps etc to get more space for an update?
I just don't understand why it suddenly changed with no downloads or updates.
Other sites are fine and Anc. is fine on my other computers.

I must add that I do not understand technical jargon etc.

Thanks and regards

Heywood

Don't know about Ancestry but re updating to 8.0
I've read a bit about people complaining about not having enough memory and it seems the best thing to do is up grade through ITunes via you computer.  ???
I don't understand it either.
It might be worth doing a bit of googling on that.

I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with the update I've been having some problems with Safari since so you may want to wait a while and see if they are any updates to iron out any bugs.

Thank you Craclyn and Sinann

All very odd - now working after a good night's sleep!

There was obviously some interference from something but who knows!

I don't understand it either.

My understanding is that installing the upgrade direct to your iPad (or iPhone) needs you to have free storage space of 5+ gigabytes. You get this back once the upgrade is complete but if you don't have that much spare you can't upgrade.

That, however, isn't the only way to upgrade. You can also do it whilst synching/backing up the device to your computer - which is more likely to have 5+ gigabytes to spare. First it downloads the upgrade and then it writes it to your iPad.

As for me, I'm still using iOS 6.

I am just so pleased that it is now working!
Strangely (to me) I tried it also on my little iPod and it was the same! So perhaps it is Safari's problem.
Although it wouldn't work either with Chrome and only partly with Opera  :-\
They are wonderful until they go wrong!
