Deerpark ~ is it a house or a neighborhood in Ennistymon?
« on: Wednesday 24 September 14 02:52 BST (UK) »
According to the 1864 issue of "Guy's Directory of Munster", my great grandfather, Henry Patrick Reilly, Esq lived at Deerpark.

In my search, I have found many entries for Deerpark but they all seem to be referring to a neighborhood not one particular house.

Today, I have found this entry ~ a single home which seems to be very old.

Does anyone think that THIS is my great grandfather's actual home?

Thanks!

I couldn't get your link to work so I'm not sure what you've found.  Anyhow, there are several references to the Deerpark address, including this one as late as 1893 from Guy's Directory:

Reilly, Henry P, Deerpark, Ennistimon (33 Upper Ormond quay, Dublin) 1864

http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/directories/guys1893/official_and_general_info/solicitors_and_commissioners.htm

However, there is this reference from 'SLATER'S COMMERCIAL DIRECTORY OF IRELAND' for the area which straddles the other date references (it's in 1881):

Reilly Henry P, Esq, River View

http://www.igp-web.com/igparchives/ire/clare/directories/1881ennistymon.txt

'River View' sounds more like a house name, the river is possibly the Cullenagh.  So I'm wondering, was Deerpark a placename reflecting an area on the outskirts of the town of Ennistimon? Either to the southwest of the town where the townland of Deerpark West is (though not as near to the river) or north/east of the town where the townlands of Deerpark Lower, Middle and Upper are (nearer to the river).

Possibly a local person would know.

The old maps show several Deerparks, Upper, Middle, Lower as Townlands

It won't work for me at the moment but have you tried looking for him in Griffiths Valuation
