Thomas Evans RAMC
« on: Friday 26 September 14 12:40 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have three photos of my grandfather Private/Corporal Thomas Evans of Mold during his time in the Royal Army Medical Corps during/after World War One.
He joined the RAMC in 1915 and was discharged on medical grounds in 1919.
He served in the Balkans.
I have traced his medal card which shows him receiving the Silver War Badge awarded to those military personnel who were discharged as a result of sickness or wounds contracted or received during the war, either at home or overseas.
The pictures I believe are taken at some sort of Army hospital (temporary or otherwise)
In each case the title of the photo identifies where in the photo my grandfather appears
I would be very grateful if anybody could identify the location (or provide any further information) from the minimal information I have provided. :-\ ???
My Aunty (a surviving daughter of the above) seems to think that my grandfather was stationed in Warwick but I cannot find any information to support this.  ???

Hello Wrexthedragon,

This site gives quite a bit of information on the RAMC in WW1. They cover the various hospitals and other establishments in use etc.

This is another useful site:

http://www.nam.ac.uk/research/famous-units/royal-army-medical-corps

There are some photos of hospitals here:

From the contents on this site, I would say that the establishment was a convalescent hospital. They were set up from 1915. http://www.1914-1918.net/hospitals_uk.htm

I think you may have a time consuming task ahead of you here. Have you tried posting this on the Armed Forces Board on Roots Chat?

Jo.

Thanks for taking time to reply Jo 😀
When I wrote this post I didn't realise there was an armed forces section. I found it earlier today and posted this same post on there.
I will take a close look at the links you have mentioned.
Thanks again 😀
