John Griffiths born St.Issells(saundersfoot) 1814
« on: Saturday 27 September 14 17:04 BST (UK) »
Hia all,

I am just wondering if you could find a baptism for this man,
perhaps also him on the 1841 or 1881 if he survived till then?

he was born in St.Isells in 1814

his first child was born in Camrose,1837
I presume the mother died
as he remarried in 1842 if I remember rightly to a Rachael Griffith.

they lived in St.Issells for the 1851 census

but for the 1861+1871 they had moved to Swansea-Llansamlet

where John worked as a coal mine Engineer and Agent.

Wonder if somebody could use a bit of magic and find some more information for me please?  ;)

1 poss baptism

John Griffiths bapt 7 Sep 1817 Haroldston St Issells Pembroke
son of Isaac & Elizabeth Griffiths

incidentally I notice that on the 1851 census the first child born 1837 is down as stepson to john Griffiths so by that I am taking it he belongs to Rachel Griffiths - either illegitimate or from a first marraige

In 1851 the son John Griffiths is listed as John's stepson so could this son have been Rachel's child pre marriage and the following have been John b 1814 living at Plumton?? Hall, St Issells

Richard Griffith    60 Shoemaker
Elizabeth Griffith 55
Thomas Griffith 30 Shoemaker
John Griffith 25 Blacksmith
Ann Griffith 20

ahhhh! I had asumed that John (child) was Johns full son and Rachael the Stepmother...
but of course its relation to the head...

Yes great that fits then thanks,

Wonder if you can see John (elder) on the 1881?
Sorry I also missed vrons post..
hmm the 1881 is slightly possible but I am just wondering hoe we got from engineer to shopkeeper?

Richard Griffith married Elizabeth Griffith 1809 at St Issells. It is possible that Elizabeth was buried at St Issells having lived at Kingsmoor on the 9th January 1826.

Hi Owen Ap Benfro,

ooh, great
could you tell me where you found that marriage? I can't see it on FindMyPast haha
yes that is possible.

I am also wondering why the family went to St.Issells church where as they lived in stepaside which according to a parish map, isn't in the parish of St.Issells
