Hallo, Louisa Maud

That is my great-grandfather Harry.  I have full information on him from his marriage in 1901 until his death in 1917, but I cannot trace him before his marriage.

On documents he gives his birth details as born 9 July 1873 Totton, Hampshire.
On his marriage certificate his father is named as Joseph (deceased).
Photograph in rural background (undated) believed to be his father appears to be middle-class or farm owner?
Photograph with rural background (c1880) of woman with Harry and sister about 3 years younger.
Photograph (undated) of sister with husband and 3 children under 5 (all girls?)
Family legend names his sister as Amelia who married Mr Roberts (or Richards?)
Family legend says Harry was disowned by his father when he fell in love with an unmarried mother.

I have tried FreeBMD, Ancestry and other sites but haven't found any record of Harry - I have been wondering if he changed his name following a rift with his father.

If you think he was born in Totton in Hampshire, would it be worth looking for a baptism in that area and then going from there

What about a will for his father if he was shown as deceased, there might have been a dispute over a will if you think they were middle class

Have you found Amelia on previous census ?, can't find a marriage between Mount and Roberts/Richards so far

He should have been registered Sept or Dec qtr 1873

Has there been a change of name

Just thoughts

Louisa Maud

Just to clarify:

The marriage certificate for Harry Mount names his father as Joseph (deceased).  I can't find a death registration or will for Joseph Mount which fits.  If there was a family rift, Harry might have lied about his father being dead.

Harry Mount's army papers give his birth as 9 July 1873 in Totton, Hampshire - I can't find any record in Hampshire to confirm this (but not all Hampshire baptisms are online yet).

I have tried to match all Harry/Henry registrations in the New Forest registration district from 1871 to 1875 on FreeBMD with the 1881 census without finding a match.

I have found no confirmation that Harry's sister was Amelia and her husband was Roberts or Richards on BMD or censuses.

I am working my way through all Josephs who married a Mount to see if I can find a son Harry or Henry, but this is a very long job.

I am working my way through every Harry/Henry Mount on FreeBMD born in England between 1871 and 1875 and have eliminated the Kent Mounts.

Aaaaaargh! >:(

Interestingly my grandfather was Harry son of Harry Mount and there is a burial in the cloister of Salisbury cathedral for a boy Harry son of Harry Mount, but I can't find a connection so that is probably a red herring.

The search goes on!
