Anwoth/Gatehouse of Fleet and surrounding area
« on: Tuesday 07 October 14 20:39 BST (UK) »
My great grandmother Jane Hewitson(Jenny) 25 January 1866 born Anwoth -  her mother Jane Bryan and father John Hewitson.   There are several variants of the surname - I have lots of certificates on all the family - and about there move from Scotland to Rochdale in Lancashire.
I am totally stumped trying to find John Hewitson's parents -   Anthony Hewitson born c1815 and his wife Rosanna McGinnies -   I have this John on the 1861 census but nothing after

I have Rosanna(Rosannah) on the 1861 1871 and 1891 census -  after 1891 nothing.   I have spent a small fortune on Scotlands people looking for their deaths and also for their marriage -  can anybody help here.

One son Hugh drowned in the River Tweed -  appears to have drowned by falling in the river after a night out - maybe two many sherbets!!!  a further tragedy is a further drowning in the River Tweed - this time of Frances Hewitson age 2  - she was the granddaughter of Anthony and Rosanna - wandered off -  I have newspaper cuttings of both drownings.

FreeCEN in the 1841 Census transcriptions has -
Anthony Hewston age 24 Agricultural Labourer born England with wife(?) Anny Hewston age 23 at Buittle Kirkcudbright.

Also-
Anthony Hewetson age 54 Woodcutter born England and family living Anworth Kirkcudbrightshire.

Could that be father and son ?

The death of Anthony Hewartson is correct and so I have the certificate.  Can't understand why I did not find it -  I used the variant surname -   the census 1851 is also correct -  not sure about the other - I need to check it out.    If you can help me find the death of Rosannah - that would be brilliant

I searched for Anthony using names beginning with  Ant and Hew in the District of Anwoth.   I can't see a death for Rosannah anywhere using the same approach

Had a quick look at the death record with parents listed as Anthony and Frances H?? and wonder whether this could be their marriage https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NXVS-8P5

The death of Antony in 1867 shows his age as 51 - the marriage is not of him but wonderful - the marriage is of his parents
