I live in the Porteous' house in Monard Glen, previously called Monard mills. Recently had a gathering of previous residents and workers. Very interesting. Twomey, O'Hara, Hayes families represented by family relative, all of whom lived at Monard.

Dear Sir, I note with great interest that you live in the shovel mills house. I was there in 1974 with my dad, Sam Porteous, My Grandfather being Matty Porteous. At the time, He showed me some of the old workshop which was still intact at the time, and how, as a boy he "worked the hammer"

Hi Barry

There is a very old back door in my house which has had initials carved into it and they are from Frank Porteous.  Two granddaughters called here about fifteen or so years ago and remembered the house and how they used to play outside near the river that flows opposite.  Glad you showed an interest.  I love it. Mary
