Aaron Newark
« on: Tuesday 14 October 14 23:49 BST (UK) »
I have searched everywhere trying to find out about Aaron Newark who was in the Southampton UK area in 1915. It is likely he was a crew member on a ship, possibly from South Africa but could be any country whose ships docked in Southampton! Many thanks

Aaron Newark is named as father on the birth certificate of Aaron Dashwood b 1916. Aaron Dashwood is my friend's late father. They have tried for many years to find out any information about Aaron Newark. I have looked at every research tool on Ancestry I can think of but drawn a blank. Because of Southampton's strong connection with shipping I wonder if he was a crew member. I have checked passenger lists. My friend said her father was always drawn to South Africa and that's the tenuous connection I'm afraid! Thank you

Yes, Kate Sweet married William Dashwood when she was 18 but Aaron Dashwood's birth certificate names father as Aaron Newark, mother as Kate Dashwood. Family has never been able to find out anything about Aaron Newark which has always made them think he was possibly a crew member of a non UK ship. Thanks for your interest.

Hi Carole
I wondered why my friend hadn't mentioned this so I've just called her and got a clearer picture. I'm afraid I've wasted your time. On the birth cert the father of Aaron Dashwood is given as Aaron Dashwood. Kate had left Wm Dashwood by this time and it seems she used the real father's first name but refused to tell anyone who he was. Family hearsay is that his name was Newark but he could easily have come from Newark. Some think he had Jewish heritage and was a jeweller but no one knows. So obviously I can't search for the mysterious Aaron by just his first name. Thank you for your time and sorry not to have got the full story before posting
Regards Sally

Hi

No problem.  Do you know whether William and Kate ever divorced?  If they did - I wonder whether there was any mention of the person she had the affair with
