Annan & Annandale, Dumfries - Are they the same place?
« on: Wednesday 15 October 14 01:18 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,

Please excuse my ignorance in wondering if these 2 names are the same place.

Annan was listed as place of birth (1780's) on 1851 census.

Annandale was listed as place of birth (1829) on 1851 census.

As you can see, both births were different era's which is why I'm not sure.

Regards,

Annie

Hi

Annandale is the valley of the river Annan. It stretches from the Solway firth, where it enters the sea at the town of Annan, to its source in the hills above Moffat.  there is now a long distance walk called the Annandale Way

see http://annandaleway.org/

Best wishes
