Bacon and Spurrell family of Thurgarton, Norfolk
« on: Wednesday 15 October 14 13:27 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I am trying to find out about 2 of my ancestors of the 2 Norfolk families that were joined in marriage with the marriage of William Spurrell (born 7 December 1595) and Margaret Bacon (born 10 February 1594) (both of Thurgarton) in the 1600s.  I understand that they were some kind of gentleman farmers and they have some kind of pedigree.

Does anyone know anything about these pedigrees or about them.

Thank you and kind regards  :)

Have a look around on FreREG
www.freereg.org.uk.
Some early records on there eg;
SPURRELL Baptised All Saints,Thurgarton, Norfolk;
WILLIAM, 07 Dec 1695 to Robert/Marie
JOHNE, 17 Sept 1698 to Robert/Marye
ROBERT ( as Sporrell), 20 Jan 1600/01, Father Robert, no Mother named

There is a ROBARTE Baptised 29 March 1553, no Parents names given. Looking at other Baptisms around the same time other have no Parents also;
JOANNE, 22 March 1545/6
JOHN, 30 Nov 1551
A NYCOLAS, 18 Nov 1547 has Father as WILLIAM

You may already have the Marriage Date;
Willyam SPURRELL Bachelor/Margaret BACON Spinster, 22 June 1616 All Saints

Worth a look,
Trish :)

Thanks everyone.  On the Bacon pedigree I see a property called Aylmerton Manor was once in their hands.   I have tried googling this and can nothing about it.  Would it have a different name now?

I think that the Pedigree refers to property in the Manor of Aylmerton rather than Aylmerton Manor.
Neale Close seems to refer to a piece of land.

Have a look at the NROCAT (online catalogue for Norfolk Record Office)

I too am interested in the Bacon lineage from Thurgarton, Norfolk although my line seems to descend from the second wife of John Bacon (whose first marriage with Mary Allyns produced Margaret the wife of William Spurrell). I think, but without a lot of certainty, that my ancestor was the youngest child of John Bacon's second marriage to an Elizabeth ___ n/k - being Henry Bacon baptised in 1622. I suspect that he was the Henry Bacon who married in about 1650 to a Mary ___ n/k and had a son Joshua who had a daughter Mary who married into my Barcham line of Edingthorpe. There were strong Porter/Barcham (Bauchin)/Bacon connections between Edingthorpe and Banningham. I welcome any comments which might confirm this connection.

Hi everyone,  I'm new here and am also interested in the Bacon/Spurrell families of Thurgarton.  I would greatly appreciate it if someone would share the pedigree with me.  Many thanks.  Sally
