Take it from me Scotlands People is much better than other sites you can access certs and download

them right away not wait weeks for them to arrive.

A lot cheaper to you can visit e.g. GROS in Edinburgh and for £15 a day access information up till present day.

I have researched family over the world and it is the cheapest and best as far as I am concerned.

Good Luck once again.

Hi ,
You could always fly probably as cheap as the train -- they are closed at the weekends though so you would have to come midweek.
Joking apart it is a great day out love when I can get to Edinburgh or Glasgow to research and I do go by bus because I'm past a certain age I get free travel on all buses in Scotland.

Until you are able to firm up Jeanie's parents' details from the 1912 marriage cert that has been discussed, from the name you have already of Jeanie McNair McMillan, looks like she was likely born in the Glasgow area in 1887. There is a birth showing with that full name then in Glasgow.

Scottish marriage certs included full details and names of the bride and groom's father and mother.

Scottish birth certs from the 1860s onward include date and place of parents' marriage (if married).

As Midlad has said, one of the reasons Scottish BMDs are great in terms of info  ;)

Monica

Added: Just realised what county we are in! Why do you think she may have been born in Argyll?

Mike, I think you have access to a/try you mentioned? There are a couple of possible census entries in 1891/1901 but nothing jumping out that lets you get a little confident it may be one entry over another. I can't see any entry with a reference to the middle name of McNair (either in full or as McN for example) in the censuses. So, there are just a number of Jean* M*cMill*n (* being the wildcard for spellings on Ancestry and SP too) born c. 1887 in the Glasgow area, and hard to be certain which way to go with them for now without further info from certs really...

Hi Monica,., again,
Someone else said it would be Glasgow.

Is the site only pay per view or can it be subscribed. A friend at
the local history society suggested that if it was they might consider
adding it to the sites they offer their members.
regards
Mike

I also tried looking just in case for death notices in the Glasgow Herald around the time of her death, but couldn't see anything there.

Glasgow Herald link here http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=GGgVawPscysC - simply add year for search to see what issues may be available (insert a year in 'Date' box). BMD notices at this time were always on the first page in the first columns which makes it easier to search.
