Thomas Bladon b.abt.1803
« on: Thursday 23 October 14 10:56 BST (UK) »
Thomas Bladon died and was buried at St. Martin Birmingham, 12 Mar 1833 aged 30.  He was a brass founder, according to his son Michael's baptism entry (born 5 Dec 1829 baptised 23 Apr 1832 St.Martin) and married to Ann (born abt.1799 Birmingham).  Ann remarried to Richard Dawson 2 May 1836 and died 16 Jan 1850.

Can anyone help with the marriage and/or birth of Thomas.

Thank you.

in 1841 Ann states she was born outside of the County so they may not have married in B'ham.
As you know Ann & Richard had a daughter in March 1840. Now I can't find a birth cert. for her under Ann or Lavinia but there is this one:
Births Mar 1840.
Dawson Female  Aston  16 216
Might not be her of course but if it is then it should give her mmn.
You can then look for a 1st. marriage elsewhere.

Well spotted jim1 - I hadn't noticed the 'born out of county'.  Ann Dawson's christening was 26 Dec 1850 following her birth 6 Mar 1840 at St.Paul's Birmingham.  With this birth date I should be able to find a birth cert, as you say.  There is a Thomas Bladon ch. in Dudley 10 Jun 1804, parents George and Sarah.  Also a George b.1768 and buried at St. Martins 18 Mar 1832 plus a Sarah b.1769 and buried at St.Martins 14 Feb 1847.  These people may be nothing to do with the family but I am in the process of trying to find Sarah Bladon on the 1841 census to see if there may be a link - no luck so far!

There's a Sarah Bladon aged 60 in B'ham in 1841.Could be as old as 64 if she even knew herself how old she was but still a bit out for a death aged 78 in 1847.
However she did have a Mary Bladon aged 20 living with her.
In 1843 there's a marriage for a Mary Ann Bladon to a Robert Caldicott & she lists her father as George Bladon, a hatter.
In 1851 she's Mary Caldicott aged 30.
Obviously Sarah would have been too old to have a child in 1820 but her death might not be that accurate.
There's a Baptism for a Mary Ann Bladon 30/7/21 b. 25/12/20.
Parents George a hatter & Sarah.
Add: Moat St.
There's also a brother:
Joseph Bladon Baptised 1835 b. 10/10/1817.
Parents: George a hat maker & Sarah.
Add. Bordesley St.
Incidently at the same time as Mary Ann there's a Baptism of a John Bladon, mother Elizabeth a single woman.
All conjecture of course.

Yes, I did spot those births - I was hoping, when I found the christening for Thomas in Dudley that I might see a copy of the actual register, to see if his father was a hatter.  Unfortunately, unlike Birmingham, Dudley hasn't got round to that detail.

Changes to the Hardwicke Act in 1812 directed that father's occupation & address should be included so with Baptisms before that all there is are parents names at best.
The only way forward is the birth cert.
