Burial

I know Maria Mary LEE died in Ruswarp, Whitby in 27th October 1879 but would she have been buried there or taken back to Wakefield where she actually lived? She was a wealthy woman, married to a wool manufacturer.

Hi Dollybea:
I did a quick search on the British Newspaper Archive site and there is a death announcement for Maria Lee, wife of Henry, in both the Leeds and Manchester Times on 1 November 1879.  I don't have credits on the site so I can't see the whole annoucement but it might refer to the funeral arrangements further on.

I have a 3 x gt grandfather who died in Berkshire and was returned home to Wigan for burial, and he was not particularly well-off, so it is quite possible Maria was interred in Wakefield, if that was the wish of her family.
