Is RootsIreland Going To Help?
« on: Tuesday 28 October 14 05:39 GMT (UK) »
I'm just contemplating whether it would be worthwhile joining up with RootsIreland to investigate the Irish branch of the family.  The are pretty much all Monaghan Presbyterians.

I've just tried a couple of test searches of records I know should exist and have got the "no results returned" response.  I wonder if anyone who does research in the Monaghan district could comment on how extensive their records are?  I have an Ancestry subscription but there's not much joy there either, nor on Familysearch.

This link does not answer your question but may give you some pointers for research

Are there variations of the surname(s) ?

No, I tested the records by just looking for "FORDE" events in Monaghan that I already have certificates for.  They came up with "no records", which makes me think the site doesn't have much for that county.

Thanks for the link-useful info to know.

Thanks Annclare-do you mean that RootsIreland has all marriages, and all baptisms EXCEPT for those parishes mentioned, or only for those parishes mentioned?

Thanks Conahy.  These are not ones I'd heard of before-about 10 miles north of where the family seemed to have be based, around Derrygoony.

The only baptisms they have are for Drumcree parish The rest are the Parish marriages they have. If a parish is not listed they don't have it.
