Emily Knight b.c.1855
« on: Wednesday 29 October 14 01:59 GMT (UK) »
Help please in looking for Emily in 1861 who was born in Wilsford Wiltshire 1855 but according to notes rec.  she was in Somerset living with her 'mother' Eliza, siblings Francis, Susan/Susanna, and Fanny/FRANCES.
Eliza was not her mother so must be stepmother (no father there), Emily's mother had died in 1857 Wilsford.
I tried FS that showed an Emily Knight b.  WELLISFORD Wilts residing in Somerset 1861 with a link to FindMyPast who in turn doesn't show them in 1861 ( I have her in 1871-1881). A******y doesn't show Emily or her siblings in 1861.
Please can you help find them in 1861.

I wonder if this is the marriage of Eliza to Emily's father?? The Devizes Reg District covers Wilsford

Jun Qtr 1858    Elizabeth Drewett - James Knight Devizes 5a 193

Sorry - must be the wrong couple - see the father was George Knight

Oh! Kay thank you so very much :) no wonder I was having trouble with them. The info' given to me was that they were in Somerset 1861 and as I always do when given such information I decided to check and look for myself.
I don't know what happened to George Knight, so far I haven't found a marriage to Eliza or death in that time frame 1855-1861 but he has to be somewhere.

Thank you again I really appreciate your help.

If George had just died prior to the 1861 census there is a possible death

Jun Qtr 1861   George   Knight Keynsham 5c 495

I think you have nailed it Kay, this death would obviously fit with George and the family. I think I've just got confused with this Somerset/Gloucestershire County thing.

I see the 1861 census says Oldland Somerset, reg district Keysham and I know Keysham is reg. district for Gloucestershire ???
George would have to be alive at least some of 1860 if Baby Thomas was three months old at 1861 census.
Many thanks from across the big pond.

Not sure if this is the correct family as this George's wife's name appears to be Mary
but thought I'd post anyway for you to look at just in case there's a connection.............

from Wiltshire BMD  http://www.wiltshirebmd.org.uk/
there are these  birth entries Netheravon

1847 Henry KNIGHT mmn WOODROFFE
1849 Frank KNIGHT mmn WOODROFFE
1851 Susanna J KNIGHT mmn WOODROFFE
1855 Emily KNIGHT mmn WOODROFF

from FreeBMD
Mar 1847 Pewsey Henry
Mar 1849 Pewsey Frank
Sep 1850 Pewsey Susanna Jane
Jun  1855 Pewsey Emily

Netheravon & Wilsford are both in the registration district for Pewsey

the marriage is to a Mary not an Eliza  :(

1846 St Nicholas Wilsford Devizes
George KNIGHT to Mary WOODROFFE

Dec 1846 Pewsey George Knight / Mary Woodroffe

Thank you Ladyhawk,

Yes this is correct family, mother Mary Woodroffe married George Knight but she died in 1857 then it would appear George took up with Eliza and they in turn had two more children - Mary Ann and Thomas before George dies and the 1861 census.
