Hi John

Glad you are enjoying the quest. ;D

Is that an Australian lady you mention.. :o crumbs, he doesn't appear to have served in Oz from his pension record. Looking at where the 60th were stationed I would guess he could have met & married a Kent girl in Chatham, a Portuguese Senorita in Lisbon, or an Irish lass.
Looks like we are looking for a Matilda Schrivener then. :)

Hi John, a little puzzled, in your list of surname interests in Hertfordshire is Moorcraft, which would suggest you have other links to the Red/Redd/Reeds?

Hi John

Perhaps you shouldn't have dismissed Matilda as Charles READ married a Matilda Scrivener 30th June 1834, St Michael, St Albans. :)

Another spelling difference. ::)

Hi John, pre 1837 no certificate,  the marriage was by banns, the only additional info were that the witnesses were Charles Wheatley? and Ann Joiners

 :) Nothing there, maybe the couple were not originally from/married in Hertfordshire?

By the way, Find my Past is free to all this weekend if you want to have a go?!
