Edward died in 1879, and I learnt from the headstone I found that Elizabeth married again, to Robert Edwards

The marriage certificate should give the name of Elizabeth`s father.

Added - think this is slightly wrong:

He's back with Edward & Elizabeth Davies in 1881, again listed as a step-son

as

Edward died in 1879

On the 1881, John Williams, b. Manchester circa 1855 is down as stepson to Elizabeth - now a widow.
