Looking for John Hender Kings Sutton 1690-1731
« on: Monday 03 November 14 17:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello Lovely Peeps.

Looking to pin down a John Hender in Kings Sutton 1690-1731

I have a marraige in Deddington Oxfordshire John Hender (Groom from Kings Sutton) married Ann Davis Deddington 1731.

I have a William Hender Marriage 1756 Handborough Oxfordshire to Mary Weller

but i have been unable to find the Baptism of William

Pennie on Oxfordshire boards helped to find the John Hender Marriage, unfortunately no idea where John or William were born.

Trying to find settlement/apprentaship records for both John in Kings Sutton and William in Handborough.

Any help much appreciated.

The only two HENDER marriages in Oxfordshire are those mentioned in your posting.  The only HENDER marriage in Northamptonshire is a Grace HENDER in 1758 in King's Sutton.  (Source:  respective county marriage indexes, Oxford 1538-1837 and Northants. 1700-1837.)

As you have already discovered, there seem to be a lot of HENDERs in Wiltshire and the West Country.

Have you requested a check of the OFHS's Oxfordshire Baptism Index (1538-1851)?  There is a small charge, but it might help locate any other HENDERs in that county.

As Pennie says - Hender is not a Northamptonshire name.

The only baptisms are for the children of John and Ann in Kings Sutton
John 1732
William 1733
Grace 1735
Anne 1737

Oh wow thank you both.

On Williams Marriage in Handborough there is a witness Grace Hender

Marrage 1756 to Mary Weller.

I have tried to find the occupations but no success.

Forgot to add i have the children of William and Mary but nothing is coming up for me on ancestry/family search or any where.

Thank you Pennie and mgeneas, came back from a Trip to Northampton last night.

I now have the Baptisms of John and Ann's children, the marriage of Grace to a Richard Temple of Evenly.

Also have the Burials of John & Ann, she was described as poor , so i got to see the parish poor book.

Also i found a Burial for an Elizabeth Hender, possible mother of John, but there are no settlement records for this surname although there are for Henson, wondering if i have another name change.

Thank you both for your help seems i need to join Northamptonshire fhs and get a sub to FindMyPast.

Dis find some Baptisms for John Hender in Wiltshire from the free weekend on FindMyPast, so further investigation required.

I'm thinking this Elizabeth may have come from Kings Sutton and was sent back after possible death of her Husband.

Looking to get to Oxford Ro ASAP before they close for refurb later this month.

Again many thanks for both your help.
