Hi,

Marriage states that Jane Bowns was a Widow.

1851 Census with the Parkes family is a George Bownes born 1833 Heath Derbyshire listed
as Son in Law.

www.familysearch.org

George Smith Bownes  Bpt 11.3.1833 Heath son of George Bownes & Jane.

Jane Smith = George Bowns 26.12.1832 Alfreton

George Bownes B1756 Buried 16.1.1833 Heath Derbyshire

Hi,

In that case one of the transcriptions is incorrect this is what it states on www.familysearch
GS film No  1041094:-

JOHN PARKES
Event Type:   Marriage
Event Date:   22 Jun 1833
Event Place:   North Wingfield, North Wingfield, Derbyshire, England
Gender:           Male
Marital Status:   Single

Spouse Name:   JANE BOWNS
Spouse Marital Status:   Widowed

Perhaps tea1 should request an image of the above marriage from Familysearch.

The above transcription does explain why George bownes/bowns born 1833 Heath, is
listed as "son in law" on the 1851 Census.  This terminology usually means step son.

Hi
I'd be really interested to know if you find out any more about George Bownes who died in 1833. I've been tracing the Bownes family for many years and this one has proved difficult to link with known families. My own Bownes ancestors (several of whom were called George, confusingly) lived in Eckington, Crich, North Wingfield and Heath during the C18th and C19th, so you'd think it would be easy to identify a link ! David Bownes

George Bownes was buried at Heath10.01.1833 aged 77.his abode is given as Heath.
There are no other entires for him or for any other Bownes in the Heath Register.
There are various spellings..BOWN,BOWNS and BOWNE.
If George Bownes is your man he would, according to his age 77,have been born 1756 give or take 12 months.
I have GEORGE BOWN baptised Heath 25.12.1755..son of Joseph and Mary.siblings (probably!) Ann 12.02.1764,..Joseph(Bowne)24.08.1760 and Hannah (Boune) 30.04.1758

There is a marriage in 1855 for Edward Bownes son of GEORGE BOWNES (Farmer) to Mary Nuttall..but this particualr George is nt shown as deceased.....

Incidentally..if Jane married in June 1833..and her husband died in January 1833..she didn't wait very long.
Again..the alleged baptism of George Smith Bownes 1833  does not appear in the Heath register.......where you can certainly rely on Spendlove for accuracy, the same cannot be said for Family Search...
I'll have a look in the Shirland records for you...........if you want to send me a PM, i'll give you my Email.
