"old town KILDARE"

Hello all,

I'm hope I'm posting to the correct list forgive me if I'm not...

I was told today by a distant rellie that our family are not from County Kildare but the town of Kildare can some one be able to tell me if this is correct and if so what County was the town in?
This family came to Aust in 1841 so would be pre that time.
